Sacramento weather
is generally characterized as Mediterranean. Located in a valley, summers in Sacramento are warm, sunny and dry and winters are mild. Summertime temperatures range in the mid-80s to 90s, although it is not uncommon for the mercury to soar to 100 degrees or higher. These very hot spells usually do not last longer than a few days. You can expect sunshine every day in the summer months with nighttime lows in the high 50s to low 60s, and often accompanied by a cooling “Delta” breeze. Winters are wet and mild with average daytime highs in the 50s/low 60s and nighttime lows in the 40s, and occasionally dipping down into the 30s. Annual precipitation is 17.1 inches, with the most rain in January and February. Fog is sometimes a problem in the wintertime. Visitors from out of state should be aware that the climate in the Sacramento Valley can vary greatly from weather at the coast or in the mountains, and it is best to check ahead if you are traveling in either direction.
